Hilo is located at the mouth of Hilo Bay, and provides you with great places to shop, dine and admire. Interesting galleries, fund boutiques and unique museums will fill up a morning of browsing for souvenirs and special trinkets, as well as more substantial acquisitions. Hilo is filled with Hawaiian culture, and the Lyman Museum and House honor Hawaiian Traditions. Known as Hawaii's biggest small town, Hilo lies at the feet of three volcanoes, Mauna Kea, which is the world's tallest, Mauna Loa, the world's most voluminous and of course, Kilauea, the world's most active. You can explore most of Hilo on foot, but rent a jeep and travel south to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park for a spectacular view of Kilauea and both it's natural destruction and additions to the Big Island. This area around the park is the best place to find vacation rental homes and vacation rental condos.
